Northwest K-8 Learning Support provides evidenced-based learning support in reading, writing and math for K-8 Students. NWK8’s special literacy and math programs are tailored to help students build confidence, enjoy learning, and succeed.
NWK8 is conveniently located in Edmonds, serving students from the following school districts: Seattle, Shoreline, Edmonds, Mukilteo, Snohomish, Shoreline, and Marysville.
My goal for NWK8 is to provide academic assistance to students , thereby offering an opportunity for students to deepen and enrich their learning. Prior to the opening of NWK8 in 2008, I taught 5th and 6th grade for seven years. I bring both my experience in the classroom and my history of providing tutoring support services to bear in my work with students.
My approach is intentionally eclectic and holistic. I strongly believe that it is my job to shape and design instruction according to the needs of the students I teach versus a one-size-fits all approach that adheres to a single philosophy, technique, or program. My overall objective is to tap into each student’s natural curiosity, inquiries, and creative abilities, based on the belief that true motivation comes from a student’s questions, interests, and strengths.
Collaboration with families, teachers, learning specialists, and allied professionals is integral to my work with students.
As a Washington state certificated teacher, I make it a priority to continue to fine-tune evidence-based best practices by adding new skills to my tool set of strategies and interventions. With the aim of helping students with reading struggles, dyslexia, or language-based learning differences, I have completed coursework in: Wired for Reading, Orton Gillingham , and Handwriting Without Tears. I have also participated in math and writing workshops as well as pursing training in social and emotional learning and interventions for supporting executive function.
